How 'Singh Is Kinng' got its title

It was Akshay Kumar who suggested producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah to title the film Singh Is Kinng .

Akshay, a full-bloodied Punjabi munda who grew up in Delhi, struggled in Bangkok, and achieved fame in Mumbai, had a dream to play a Sikh in a Bollywood film from the start of his career. That dream realized with this Vipul Shah production directed by Anees Bazmee .

When the film was still in production stages and yet without it’s title, Akshay Kumar came up with the name ‘Singh Is King’.

How?

Those were the days when Akshay was shooting Priyadarshan’s film Bhool Bhulaiya in Jaipur. There, Akshay saw the catchphrase ‘Singh is king’ written on the back of a truck driven by a Sikh.

Immediately, the actor called Vipul Shah and suggested the title ‘Singh Is King’ for the film. Shah agreed but later added an extra ‘n’ to King for numerological reasons.

‘Singh Is Kinng’ has Akshay Kumar playing Happy Singh, a good-natured sardar who tries to help people in his village but inadvertently ends up creating more troubles for them. To keep him away, the villagers send him on a mission to Australia to reform Lucky Singh ( Sonu Sood ), a local munda who has gone bad and become an underworld don Down Under.

The film stars Katrina Kaif as Akshay’s love interest. It is set to release on August 8.
