London school creates new world record in Bollywood dancing

LONDON: It's like a dream come true for a London-based school to set a new world record for Bollywood dancing as more than 200 budding dancers of the school braved inclement weather at Trafalgar Square here.

The five-minute routine on Sunday had people of all ages and backgrounds dancing to the tunes of Hindi song of Shah Rukh-starrer Om Shanti Om.

Charanjeet Singh Oberoi, General Manager, Sapnay School of Dance, the firstever UK Bollywood dance champions, told "it was a proud and fantastic experience." Hosted by Strictly Come Dancing's Erin Boag, the event encouraged young people to break several world records including largest number of football freestyle tricks in one minute.

"On Sunday at 1 pm for 5 minutes the whole audience danced to the routine taught in an attempt to make a new world record and were successful. It was lovely to see so many people from different backgrounds and origins took part and made history," Ash Oberoi, Artistic Director of the dance school, said.

Last year, Sapnay was commissioned for London India performance by Greenwich plus Docklands Festivals to launch ceremony of Trafalgar Square Festival.

This year, the Harrow-based school was commissioned by The Mayor's office and BBC Blast to make the new Bollywood World record.

The school teaches Bollywood, Bhangra, Street and Hip Hop to all age groups and it is the firstever UK Bollywood Champions honoured and privileged to represent the UK in the international finals.
