Goa fest's Film Bazaar to get glitzier this year

Goa: Come November, Goa will turn Rotterdam.

For this years Film Bazaar, an annual event organised by National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) during the Goa film festival to provide a marketing platform for filmmakers, is being modelled after Rotterdams CineMart.

CineMart is a co-production market of the International Film Festival Rotterdam and will hold its 26th edition in January 2009.

Film Bazaar will be held in Goa during November 26-29 on the sidelines of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI-2008), which starts November 22 and ends on December 2.

Neena Gupta, managing director, NFDC, said businesses in the form of co-production deals, partnership and distribution ventures for Indian filmmakers would be the highpoints of this years Film Bazaar.

Gupta said around 500 delegates are expected to take part in the event this year, against 350 participants last year.

She said around 18 countries are likely to participate in the event, including Europe, the US, Australia and China.

Another highlight of this years Film Bazaar would be the Work in progress Lab, where filmmakers would be allowed to showcase their unfinished work. Filmmakers can get their unfinished work to this lab, where they can look for business partners.

Derek Malcolm, a former film critic with UKs The Guardian, and Molly Stensgard, a Danish film editor, are among the mentors for the Work in Progress Lab.

Film Bazaar will also feature a co-production market for feature films and documentaries, a screenwriters lab and a business conclave. NFDC is also expected to conduct a screenplay workshop - screenwriters lab - in association with Binger Filmlab from the Netherlands.

Binger Filmlab is an Amsterdam-based international feature film development centre, where writers, directors, producers and script editors from around the world place their projects and their usual working practices within an inspiring environment of fellow film-makers and are coached and supported by internationally-acclaimed mentors and advisors.

Gupta said Film Bazaar is meant to promote the multi-lingual culture of India and carry it to an international audience.
